The farm
Theo, who is already over 90 years old, his wife Esther and their son David take care of the Kenya Berco Farm. Theo started growing coffee back in 1965, when he bought the land and the coffee plants.
Central Kenya is the hotspot for coffee in Kenya. What makes Kenya Berco special is the variety. Only the SL-28/34 variety is grown there. Some of the trees are 70 years old. The older the coffee tree, the more cherries it bears. Many farmers in western Kenya normally pick between 2.5 to 5 kilos per tree. Theo, however, sometimes picks up to 40 kilos per tree.
With the proceeds from their coffee farm, Theo and Esther have made it possible for their 9 children to go to school and college.
The partnership with Chris from wertkaffee makes us particularly happy. With him we have found a reliable partner who shares our philosophy.
For every kilo of green coffee sold, €0.25 will be donated to the NGO Crossroads .

Taste
Shy? Maybe... Sweet? A little... But after they really roast me, I'm an explosion on the palate. Blueberry and lime are my strengths. My weakness: forbidden sexy.
Degree of roasting: light - natural fruit aromas are thus preserved
No flavors added
Pecan, milk chocolate, light bitters, pleasant spice? Yes, and all natural! More than 800 natural flavors can be found in coffee, without any additives. They are created by a wide variety of factors, such as the type of coffee, the conditions under which it is grown, its processing and roasting, and finally, you can also influence the variety of aromas in your coffee by the way it is prepared.
Recommended preparation methods
Our coffees can basically be used for all preparation methods. This recommendation is only for your orientation. The Merry Blueberry tastes best to us personally as a filter coffee.

Hand roasted in Tyrol
With special care, your roast master Cati and product developer Clemi take care of the selection of the green coffee and its roasting with their own hands. Lebenshilfe Tirol actively supports us with the packaging of the coffee. In the 15kg drum roaster, the beans are gently roasted to the optimal degree using the latest roasting software from Cropster and thus develop their full aroma.
In our show roastery in Wattens in Tyrol, everyone is welcome to look over their shoulder as they roast, or to taste their way through the range to find the perfect coffee for home.

Preparation methods differ in the degree of grinding.
This plays a very big role for the taste. We want our coffee to taste perfect. Therefore, you can choose the grind accordingly.
Coffee grinder owners (congratulations!) or fully automatic machine owners please choose "whole bean"!
If you choose ground for portafilter, feel free to use the comment function during the order and specify your machine. Even better, of course, is to grind it yourself. Electric - and hand grinders you will find at the Accessories.
